Street Food & Cultural Tour
About 4 Hours
We begin the tour at a small neighbourhood street market. This is a great opportunity to walk through the narrow winding lanes of a typical Vietnamese neighbourhood, seeing people going about their morning chores. This particular market is located in what used to be one of the sentinel villages of old Hanoi; it is an area of great historical interest as well as an great spot to see how Hanoi is embracing the 21st Century.
At the end of the market street is a traditional Communal House. The original Communal House was destroyed in street fighting in 1945 but has since been rebuilt and is once again an integral part of community life in this area. It is a particularly interesting site, housing both a stone stele dating from the Ly Dynasty as well as a Three Mother's Temple, Vietnam's indigenous, matriarchal, animistic religion that has now been blended with Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism.
"gorgeous, restored colonial building "
We will lunch at a restaurant set in gorgeous, restored colonial building that offers a range of 'street foods' from all over Vietnam. This gives you an opportunity to try a wide range of different dishes without having to pound the pavements all day! Around the edge of the courtyard, it is possible to watch the women preparing all the different dishes on offer. During the meal, I will talk about some of Vietnam's culinary customs, traditions and range of cuisines.
To finish, we return to the Old Quarter for a coffee at the 'Secret Café', an oasis of peace high above the crowds and noise of the city. A chance for you to kick back, relax and absorb one of the most fabulous views of central Hanoi. Try the Sabayon Coffee, once found all over the capital, this is one of the few cafes that still serves this delicacy. While we are there, I'll answer any questions you may have about where to shop, what to see, how to fill the rest of your time - anything really!

'I have had nothing but 'rave' feedback from both tours. Kelly and Eileen loved it . Katrina was blown away by it all.'
I can't thank you enough...
It was a bit of a risk, given that we'd never met, but I felt so confident about you, just from the tone of your emails which reflected obvious passion and enthusiasm for Vietnamese food, and for your organizational skills.
